By Mike Spieker GRAND FORKS, ND (July 1) - After a grueling four-race tour through the Red River Valley the previous week, the Brad Seng Racing team had just one event on their schedule entering the Fourth of July weekend. That one event took them to their home track, River Cities Speedway, in Grand Forks. Just as he has done so many other times this year, Brad got a good start to the night as he picked up the heat race win; his 10th of the season.
Being that it was Midseason Track Championship night at River Cities, the features were lined up directly off the points standings. Seng entered the night with a slim two point advantage over Dustin Strand atop the standings, meaning he earned the right to start on the pole for the 20-lap Up North Financial main event. As the green flag dropped, Strand made an aggressive move from the outside of the front row to grab the lead on lap one. Seng had to play catch up right away as the low side of the speedway was not working for him early. At the midpoint of the race Strand had built up a full straightaway lead over Brad, but lapped traffic would play a factor in the late stages of the event. With five to go, Strand encountered a pack of five cars battling for position, which allowed Brad to erase the leader’s advantage in just two laps. Seng made one bid for the lead on lap 16, but didn’t quite have enough to complete the pass. Soon thereafter, Strand cleared the traffic as Seng cruised to a strong second place finish. Seng and Strand are now tied for the River Cities Speedway point lead.
